As you sow, so shall you reap

It happened to me on a usual weekend morning. As I went to my
dental chair to attend my patient, I welcomed him with a warm smile. He too
smiled back. I just went through his case file. At first observing his body
language it seemed he was a reserved sort of guy.or perhaps at least with the
dentists. Later looking at his case sheet I said to him that we need to take
either of his first molars of the lower jaw politely and with a gleam of
concern in my eyes Wonder what took over him, he obliged easily unlike other
patients, even the friendly ones who would be so reluctant when it comes to
matter of extraction.

When I asked him which one he would like to get extracted
he said to me I can choose any side, whichever side is comfortable for me to
extract..! I chose his right...When I tried giving him LA I had tough time
finding for the particular nerve. Later with the aid of my seniors I succeeded.

But by the time I finally injected it to the nerve it was the tenth or eleventh
I had poked his buccal mucosa..! Then when we got started, we discovered that his tooth was yielding to none of my forceps. So we resolved to gouge! Finding me tired, my seniors assistant offered his help. He too struggled a bit. Later my senior worked it out but so harsh, that harsh that even a stone cutter would be that hard on his boulders I thought all my efforts to gain rapport with the patient was in vain. This was because this man had three roots instead of the normal two roots of molar..To make things worse it had fused with the bone.

It seemed that seven years back this man had undergone RCT and had later didnt get a crown on it due to ignorance. Over a time the roots had fused with the mandible. When the whole drama ended it was about 1.05pm. Almost of the department had left...When my seniors left and I was done prescribing the pills he need to take next few days, he expressed his sympathy towards me and the seniors assistant telling that a tiring case like him shouldn’t have come to us on a Saturday morning. He rebuked our senior for being harsh. And just before he closed the door behind him as he went, he wished us a happy weekend...It then struck to us that the reason he was kind to us was because both of us, I and my seniors assistant had an eye on his face, to read if there were any trace of pains in it whenever we handled him.
